KPMG to up graduate intake as accountant sees market demand

The accountant has increased the number of graduates it plans to recruit for the September intake to 820, marking a significant increase on last year when KPMG only took on 600 graduates.

KPMG said including school leavers and interns, the number of junior positions open at the firm has climbed to 1,000 after it opened up 100 more spots than originally intended in February.

Michelle Quest, head of people at KPMG, said: “The signs are – in other employers as well as KPMG – that the situation is improving. There are places for the right people.”

KPMG is in line with competitors PricewaterhouseCoopers and Deloitte, which both recruit roughly 1,000 graduates a year.

Meanwhile, Ernst & Young is planning to take on 950 graduates and interns this year and has further plans to recruit 1,000 people over the next three years.
